A closer look at Lumiere Light Festival – my experience as a Lumiere volunteer

Lumiere takes over the whole of Durham city during mid-November. The projection on the Cathedral and the Castle told the story of the evolution of human culture over the past millennium as well as describing an imaginary world to us. Those fantastic and surreal displays of the combination of light and all kinds of different theme brought a lot of excitement to the city.

Helping families do time

When I tell people I’m off to prison, I normally get a confused look. In fact, I go to prison pretty regularly – usually once or twice a week – and I’ve been going for the past year and a half. But rather than serve time for some crime I’ve managed to keep secret, I go to serve tea and toast, chat to visitors and play in the ‘jungle’ (aka, the play area in the visits room).

Volunteering in Cambodia

Ever since I started my life at Durham University I have always looked for chances to do something different and that moment came last summer. Through DUCK (Durham University Charities Kommittee) I had the opportunity to spend my summer in Cambodia building a fruit and vegetable garden and teaching English to school children.
